Shake, Shake

Shake, Shake ya body...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: a person's diet accounts for more than 50% of their success in achieving and maintaining an athletic physique. Cutting back on fats and simple carbohydrates is highly important when trimming down, but if you want to build strong, toned muscles, then you'll have to load up on high quality protein.

The problem is that protein-rich foods such as meats, poultry, eggs, and fish are generally more expensive and take longer to prepare than average foods. This partly explains why people consume more carbohydrate-rich foods in their daily diets, which in turn creates protein deficiencies.

A great way to compensate for that lack of protein is to include protein supplements into your diet, between meals and after workouts. Don't overdo it though; eat at least 3 consistent meals a day and only fuel up on protein shakes as a supplement, or to replace a meal every now and again. Living on protein supplements can be hazardous to your health and will leave your muscles soft in the long run.

Which protein supplements are good for you?

Whatever your fitness goal is there will be a range of protein shakes which have been tailor-made to help your achieve your goal faster and more effectively.

Whether you’d like to build muscle quickly, develop a strong but lean body, help yourself to lose weight, or improve your stamina and energy levels when playing sport, there will be a protein shake for you.

Here are just a couple of examples of readily available shakes that are good all round shakes for any general gym user or exercisers to use. For more comprehensive advice on the exact shake/powder to use send me an email.

Total Protein

This shake by myprotein.com has been developed specifically to provide you with a steady supply of protein throughout the day.

The formula contains three types of proteins – slow proteins (milk concentrate), moderate proteins (egg white) and rapid proteins (whey isolate). This means that the protein is absorbed by your body at different rates, resulting in a steady supply throughout the day.

Total Protein an excellent choice as an everyday protein shake.

Hurricane XS

This again from myprotein.com I think it one of the best and most value for money ‘all in one’ protein supplement on the market. With so many different specialist shakes available to buy it can be tricky to know what to take at what time. Hurricane XS solves this issue as it’s perfect as either a post-exercise shake or as a meal replacement.

Hurricane XS is a blend of Whey Protein Isolate and Whey Protein Concentrate and it also contains 5 grams of Creapure Creatine, making this shake ideal if you’re looking to build lean muscle mass.
